Opening & Creating Shots

Opening an existing shot

After launching your DCC through K-Pipe, use the K-Pipe shot browser panel to find your shot:

  1. Open the K-Pipe panel (location varies by DCC — see the DCC guides)
  2. Browse or search for your sequence and shot
  3. Select the task you are working on
  4. Click Open to load the latest workfile version

If no workfile exists yet for that task, K-Pipe will offer to create one.

Creating a new workfile

If you are starting work on a shot for the first time:

  1. Select the shot and task in the K-Pipe panel
  2. Click New (or Create workfile)
  3. K-Pipe creates a versioned workfile (v001) with the correct name and saves it in the right location

File naming

K-Pipe handles naming automatically. Workfiles follow the pattern:

{project}-{sequence}_{shot}-{task}-v{version}.{ext}

For example: doris-SQ010_SH020-lighting-v003.blend

Tip

Never rename workfiles manually. K-Pipe tracks versions by filename — renaming will break version history.
